ALABAMA TEAM TO LEVEL UP SPORTS SCENE IN DOTHAN
DOTHAN, Ala. – Today the USL announced that Dothan United will begin play in USL League Two in 2024. It will be the inaugural season for a club that will immediately become one of the top sports choices for fans in southeast Alabama.
The Dragons will play their home matches at Rip Hewes Stadium, a 10,000-seat facility in central Dothan.
“We are proud and excited to bring the USL to Dothan,” Steve Donner, Dothan United President, said. “The city of Dothan has been growing, and city leadership has a bold plan for growth in the future. Introducing sports to the city fits nicely into their growth plan as the next step for Dothan!”
The club’s mission is to develop community in the city above all. Through winning matches, activating in the city, and playing attractive soccer, club leadership wants to develop a real soccer scene in Dothan.
Dothan United will compete in the South Central Division in 2024, in the Southern Conference.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see a group so determined to build a sports scene through a partnership with our league,” Joel Nash, USL Senior Vice President of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. “Even more rewarding still when that place is where I call home. It’s a special day for me, and I hope it’s a special day for all of Dothan and Southeast Alabama.”
